After rushing for 1,731 yards and 36 touchdowns as a senior at Pasco, Fla., High School, Hambrick was named all-state, to the Florida Super 24 Senior Team and Tampa Tribune Player of the Year. He was also named Sunshine Athletic Conference Player of the Year and played in the Florida-Georgia All-Star Game. Troy's brother is former Cowboys linebacker Darren Hambrick, and his uncle is former major league pitcher Jim "MudcatÓ Grant. In 2001 Hambrick joined Cowboys Peppi Zellner and Anthony Wright in the NFL High School Tuesday program, a day that all NFL teams visited a local high school. The group spoke to the R.L. Turner High School football team in Carrollton, Tex. about the importance of setting goals, focusing on education and planning for the future.
